First fight underway between Darren Elkins and Michihiro Omigawa.
They've come out slugging. Too bad very few in attendance to see it right now.
They've come out slugging. Too bad very few in attendance to see it right now.
Darren gets Omigawa to the ground and starts pounding but then almost gets caught in a heel hook. He escapes.
Great flurry by Elkins at the end of the first. I give it to him 10-9.
Nice movement by both fighters in 2nd round. But they're still getting they're licks in.
Elkins bleeding a lot from a cut over his right eye. Another close round, I'll give Omigawa that one.
Decent first fight. I say Omigawa takes it. Crowd appreciates it.
Nope. Elkins wins by unanimous decision. One judge scored it 30-27 for him. Wow.
RESULT: Darren Elkins defeats Michihiro Omigawa by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
Beltran and Rosa throwing bombs in the middle of the 1st round of the 2nd fight.
They're right into the next fight. No walkouts. Fighters were already in the cage.
Again they were firing a rapid rate right at the bell. The Mexicutioner pushed the pace more in that round, so I give it to him.
Rosa eats a knee to the groin, and we're talking a Beltran knee so we know that's gotta hurt.
Rosa returns the Favour shortly after the restart.
This is getting a bit chiopt now. Beltran nails Rosa with a punch to the face just after the bell but I'm sure he knew it was late.
Beltran takes care of business in the 3rd round, getting the TKO. Then falls to his knees
RESULT: Joey Beltran defeats Aaron Rosa by TKO at 1:27 of the third round.
Dustin Poirier and Jason Young (who replaced Rani Yahya) putting on another good fight here. Slugfests among featherweights almost as good as heavyweights.
"Go Canucks Go!" chant? This town is crazy.
RESULT: Dustin Poirier defeats Jason Young by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
First Canadian on the card fighting now. Calgary's Nick Ring vs James Head.
Nice first round for Ring. I give it to him 10-9
Internet connection has slowed terribly in case you're wondering why I haven't posted as much as earlier.
RIng really pouring it on in 2nd round. He's bloodied up Head's eye and the doctor halts it for an examination, with Ring in side control.
They have to go back to the position they were when the fight was halted.
I think Ring may have forgotten that because he looked like he was about to start throwing from the standup. Good on Head for going straight to the mat. Of course, veteran Herb Dean wouldn't have forgotten.
I'm somewhat surprised the doctor let it keep going. I coudn't get as close a look but he's still dripping blood.
I gave Ring the second round easily. Almost 10-8 but Head did a couple good things. I have Ring up 20-18.
A huge takedown by Ring early in third. He's in Head's full guard. Head's face looks like a mess.
Ring now in half guard and getting a few shots in. He's now in side control and totally dominating third round with wrestling and ground and pound.
After utterly dominating the third with wrestling and gnp, Ring gets a rear naked choke late for the win. Go Canada!
RESULT: Nick Ring defeats James Head by rear naked choke at 3:33 of the third round.
No post-fight interview for the Canadian? What's up with that? Still half an hour for one fight before live Sportsnet/Spike prelims.
Soszynski vs. Massenzio up next, the second of four straight fights involving Canadians.
Massenzio goes for an early takedown and half gets it. Then he also has a guillotine very briefly but Soszynski gets out of it.
Massenzio managed a takedown midway through the round but does nothing but hold him there and they're back up quickly.
Soszynski comes at him with a few good and almost nails him with an uppercut. Massenzio shoots and gets another takedown. This time he's in halfguard.
Soszynski gets back up after almost giving up his back. They clinch, but the referee separates them pretty quickly for lack of activity.
Soszynski nails him with a shot to the head. Massenzio drops down to try for another takedown but Soszynski sprawls.
Soszynski was better with the striking in the first round, but Massenzio got a couple takedown so he probably takes the first 10-9.
Soszynski defending the takedown a lot better in the second round and he's immediately grabbing hold of Massenzio and making him pay.
Massenzio shoves Soszynski against the cage from a long distance. But then he doesn't do anything. Good on the ref this time for separating them.
Soszynski looked on the prowl right at the end. The bell probably sounded good to Massenzio. I give that round Soszynski 10-9.
Big kick early from Soszynski and then easily stuffs Massenzio's shot. He gets to side control and now he's looking for submissions.
